It seems to me this movie stongly influenced Wizird of Oz in cast, even sets. The castle so similar to the one at top of steps in closing number. actions of bulger, oz, etc.

  • [at the football game] Brenda: Why are cheering so loud? Rosalie: We`re in America. We have to act like the Americans do. Besides, I like it. Come on, NAVY!
    Trivia
  • Originally to be filmed with Marion Davies in 1928. The production was abruptly halted when MGM converted its studio to sound. The 1936 film incorporated footage from the unfinished 1928 production, mostly exterior shots.
  • The singing voice of Eleanor Powell was dubbed by Marjorie Lane (uncredited).
  • Adapted from a Broadway show produced by Florenz Ziegfeld Jr.. The original stage production of "Rosalie" opened Jan. 10, 1928 at the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York and ran for 335 performances. The book was by William Anthony McGuire and Guy Bolton. Despite its moderate success and powerhouse composers (music by George Gershwin and Sigmund Romberg, lyrics by Ira Gershwin and P.G. Wodehouse), MGM decided to have Cole Porter write an entirely new score for the film. Max Steiner also worked on the original Broadway production as an orchestrator; Steiner went on to compose the music for some of Hollywood`s most popular films, including King Kong (1933), Gone with the Wind (1939) and Casablanca (1942). Marilyn Miller starred in the stage version of "Rosalie", and Frank Morgan, best known to modern audiences as the title role in The Wizard of Oz (1939), played the role of the king in the stage version as well as in this film.
  • The electricity bill for the Drum Dance scene was, according to some rumours in the region of $30,000. According to some sources 1,500 extras were used in the Drum Dance scene, making the costumes for them took almost a month.
  • There were several dance numbers cut before the movie was released. The football game at the beginning was cut from several newsreels. Over 100 original West Point students appeared in that movie, and there are rumours that each of them who took part in one dance number, received a kiss by Eleanor Powell.
