Trivia

Trivia and Quotes

Quotes
  • Sheila: My mother was kind of middle-aged and frumpy. Diana: Whose isn`t? Sheila: At fourteen she was middle-aged and frumpy.
  • Connie: Tapping`s not my strongest point! Larry: I see that.
  • Sheila: Why is it only my ass that ever gets invited places?
  • Mike Cass: How many jobs are there? Larry: 4 and 4. Judy Monroe: 44? Sheila: No, 4 *and* 4. Larry: 4 boys, 4 girls. Sheila: Need any women?
  • Zach: Goddammit, now can`t ANYBODY up there hear me! Just let your hair down! Can`t you talk? All of you, just talk, to me, to each other!... Jesus Christ!
  • Sheila: You were a rotten dancer. Zach: Why do you think I became your choreographer?
  • Bobby: I couldn`t catch a ball if it had Elmer`s Glue on it. And wouldn`t my father have to be this big ex-football hero. Well, he was so humiliated, he didn`t know what to tell his friends, so he told them all I had Polio. On Father`s Day, I used to limp for him.
  • Sheila: Can I sit on your lap? Zach: Do you always come on like this? Sheila: No. Sometimes I`m aggressive.
  • Larry: Don`t you know the combination, Sheila? Sheila: I knew it when I was in front!
  • Connie: Connie Wong. Always Wong, never Wight. [Zach looks up] Connie: Bad joke. I was born in Chinatown, lower east side. Zach: How old are you? Connie: I was born December 5th, four thousand six hundred and forty two, the Year of the Chicken.
  • Zach: Tell me about the Bronx. Diana: What`s to tell about the Bronx? It`s uptown and to the right. Zach: What made you start dancing? Diana: Who knows? I`m Puerto Rican. We jump around a lot.
    Trivia
  • The song "Dance 10, Looks 3" was originally called "Tits and Ass", but it was changed so that the audience wouldn`t see that title in the program. They figured that if the joke was a surprise it would be funnier.
  • Kelly Bishop, best known to young audiences as Rory`s grandmother on "Gilmore Girls" (2000), won a Tony award for her performance as Sheila in the original cast of Chorus Line (under the name Carole Bishop) and as the mother Marjorie Houseman in Dirty Dancing (1987).
  • Audrey Landers left a successful recurring role on the TV show "Dallas" (1978) to take a role in this film.
  • Because of her comparative inexperience, Audrey Landers is generally not seen in wide shots of the entire cast dancing, but is inserted in close-ups. You can see this very clearly in the opening number, as well as during the "Surprise" number. The dancer in her position during the long shots of "One" at the end is not Audrey Landers, either.
  • Pam Klinger (Maggie)and Charles McGowan (Mike) met during the production, became a couple and eventually married.
  • Roxann Dawson`s film debut.
  • A Chorus Line opened on Broadway at the Shubert Theater on July 25, 1975 and ran for 6137 performances setting a Broadway record.
  • SPOILER: Originally, in the Broadway play, Cassie didn`t get the job. After a few performances they changed it, and since then always got a standing ovation.
