# The restaurant called "The `76 House", featured in two dinner scenes, one with Jackie and Luke and one with Jackie and Isabel, is a National Historical Site in Tappan, Rockland County, New York. Major John Andre, a British officer who assisted turncoat Benedict Arnold, was held there while awaiting trial by then General George Washington. At the time, it was a tavern and inn, but located across from the town meeting hall and church where the trial was held; another National Historic Site.
The film was dedicated "In loving memory of Irene Columbus", director Chris Columbus`s mother, who in the year before the movie was released had died of cancer, a similar circumstance to one of the main characters in the movie.
The song that Isabel (`Julia Roberts`) sings to Ben (Liam Aiken) in the hospital is "If I Needed You". It was recorded by Lyle Lovett on his 1998 album "Step Inside This House". Lyle and Julia were, of course, married at one time.
Chris Columbus`s daughter, Eleanor Columbus makes an appearance as the little girl in ballet class (but is uncredited).
Patrick Doyle wrote a score for the film which was rejected.
Each of the leads (Julia Roberts, Susan Sarandon, Ed Harris) was Oscar-nominated for playing real people - Sarandon as Helen Prejean in "Dead Man Walking", Roberts as Erin Brockovich in "Erin Brockovich", and Harris as Jackson Pollock in "Pollock." Roberts and Sarandon both won; Harris lost.
This was the first theatrical film to premiere on the WB television network.
