[outside a biker bar; sees Blackheart walking up]
Motorcycle Gang Member: I think you might be lost, boy. You deaf or something?
Motorcycle Gang Member: [steps in front of Blackheart, stops him from entering] Angels only in there.
Blackheart: Angels. Really?
Motorcycle Gang Member: Yeah, really.
[jabs Blackheart in the chest]
Motorcycle Gang Member: You got a problem with that?
Blackheart: As a matter of fact...
[jabs him the same way, slowly turning him into a blackened corpse; after the biker drops]
Blackheart: I do.
Caretaker: Sterilize that for me.
[handing over the hooked needle to Johnny Blaze]
Johnny Blaze: Sterilize? Ummm...
[making hand poses toward the hooked needle as if he would sterilize it with his hellfire]
Caretaker: In the boiling water.
Johnny Blaze: Right. Okay. Little confused.
[before the big Touchdown Jump, Johnny Blaze and Randall "Mack" Mackenzie stand at the top of the acceleration ramp, overlooking the 300 ft jump]
Mack: Thank God you listened to me, took the cars out. It would`ve been suicide otherwise This way if you come up short, see, you`ll come down on some nice, soft, green... grass?
[Mack looks up at the sound of the stadium dome being opened. Six Blackhawk helicopters slowly descend towards the field]
X Games Announcer: Ladies and Gentlemen, Johnny Blaze will not be jumping 50 cars today as scheduled; but instead, he will be leaping six UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. Never before has any man attempted such a death-defying stunt.
[Mack turns and glares at Johnny]
Johnny Blaze: [shrugs] I took the cars out.
Mack: [as the helicopters land on the field] Why? Why JB? Why wouldn`t you tell me?
Johnny Blaze: Well, because you would have thrown a fit.
Mack: Call me old-fashioned, I`m funny that way. Human sacrifice makes me uncomfortable. Why, JB? Why helicopters, man?
Barton Blaze: [a flashback to Barton discussing a new idea for a jump with young Johnny] You know what I`ve been thinking about? A new stunt. But instead of the cars or the ring of fire, a helicopter.
Johnny Blaze: My dad thought it`d be cool.
Mack: [Mack pauses, and glances down towards the helicopters again, before turning back with a sigh] He was right.
Blackheart: You have his heart, now I`m going to break it.
Blackheart: Listen to me, and try to get this through your thick skull. You don`t work for my father anymore, you work for me.
Abigor: You`re a slow learner, aren`t you, Rider? You cannot catch the wind!
Caretaker: You all right?
Johnny Blaze: Yeah, I`m good. I feel like my skull is on fire, but I`m good.
[to mugger]
Ghost Rider: You, guilty.
[to young cellmate]
Ghost Rider: You, innocent.
Mephistopheles: [after Blaze defeats Blackheart] Congradulations, Johnny. You upheld your end of the bargain. It`s time I take back the power of the Ghost Rider. You get your life back. The love you`ve always wanted. You can start a family of your own. There are more deals to be made. More people willing to give their souls for what they desire. Let someone else carry this curse. You`re free now. After all... a deal`s a deal.
Johnny Blaze: [looks to Roxanne; points to Mephistopheles, his hand burning as fire flashes in his eyes] No. I`m gonna own this curse... and I`m gonna use it against you. Whenever innocent blood is spilt, it`ll be my father`s blood... and you`ll find me there. A spirit of vengeance... fighting fire with fire.
Mephistopheles: [angered] I will make you pay for this.
Johnny Blaze: You can`t live in fear.
Mephistopheles: [shouts] NO!
[At a biker bar, Blackheart finds a frightened waitress hiding behind the bar]
Blackheart: I knew you were here. I could smell your fear.
[Blackheart turns the waitress into a withered corpse]
Blackheart: There`s an old saying: Raise no more devils than you can lay down. My father raised one too many.
Roxanne Simpson: [to Mack] You don`t know me, but I love him.
Blackheart: [to priest] Forgive me father for I have sinned. I have sinned a lot.
Ghost Rider: [to Blackheart] Look into my eyes.
Blackheart: [starts screaming, but then laughs] Your Penance stare won`t work on me. I`ve no soul to burn.
Roxanne Simpson: [reading Johnny`s books] Jesus.
Blackheart: [appears suddenly, responding to Roxanne] Not even close.
Blackheart: I`m not going back
[grins]
Blackheart: I like it here!
Roxanne Simpson: [after Johnny tells her he`s the Devil`s Bounty Hunter] The way I see it is I`ve got a couple of choices: I could either accept that you really believe what you`re telling me is true, & take you to the nearest psychiatric hospital.
Johnny Blaze: You see, now that...
Roxanne Simpson: Or, I realize that you`d rather make up ridiculous stories than be honest with me... and I walk out of that door... forever.
Johnny Blaze: Thank you for telling me I`m the devil`s bounty hunter.
Johnny Blaze: My daddy once said, "If you don`t make a choice, the choice makes you."
Roxanne Simpson: Yea, why do your choices always keep us apart?
Johnny Blaze: Come over here and I`ll kill you, you son of a bitch!
Johnny Blaze: 300 Feet. Pretty neat, pretty neat.

Johnny Blaze: [Blaze`s crew looks at him incredulously after watching footage of his crash] What?
Mack: "What". You should be taking a dirt nap after that ragdoll today.
Johnny Blaze: I got lucky.
Mack: No, I got a huntin dog named Lucky. He`s got one eye and no nuts. Luck don`t cover it, JB. Man, you got an angel looking after you.
Johnny Blaze: Yeah maybe.
[after Mack walks away, looks out the window; to himself]
Johnny Blaze: Maybe it`s something else.
Johnny Blaze: How much NOS did you put in the tank?
Mack: Enough to shame the Space Shuttle.
[after seeing a cartoonish version of himself]
Mephistopheles: [chuckles] Far out.
Johnny Blaze: Let`s Ride!
Roxanne Simpson: So, could you tell us about The Good Samaritan?
Girl in Alley: Well, I`ll never forget him, that`s for sure. He was tall, broad shoulders, and thin, really thin, like bony. He had this rad chopper, it was all flames and stuff. Oh, and his face was a skull and it was on fire.
Roxanne Simpson: "On fire?"
Girl in Alley: Yeah, like...
[hisses and mimes flames with her hands]
Girl in Alley: ... like that much fire, and I know it sounds weird but it looked good on him. I mean, it was an edge look but he totally pulled it off.
Young Johnny Blaze: You. You killed him.
Mephistopheles: I cured his cancer. That was the deal. But I couldn`t let him come between... *us*.
Caretaker: [Johnny turns around to get his bike] It does.
Johnny Blaze: [turns around] What?
Caretaker: If you`re wondering if your bike looks normal, it does. And to answer your next question: last night did happen.
Johnny Blaze: Who are you?
Caretaker: [points at Johnny] Who are you?
Caretaker: [Johnny turns around and walks away; Caretaker calls] You`re the Ghost Rider!
Johnny Blaze: [approaching Blackheart] How does it feel to have all that evil inside of you? All their power?
[turns into the Ghost Rider]
Ghost Rider: All their souls? A thousand souls to burn. Look into my eyes. Your souls are stained with the blood of the innocent. Feel their pain.
[Blackheart starts screaming and goes into a catonic state. The Ghost Rider throws him on the floor]
Ghost Rider: [looks up at Roxanne, the flames dim. Roxanne reaches out her hand to touch him. Ghost Rider recoils] Monster.
Roxanne Simpson: I`m not afraid.
[touches his face and he slowly begins turning back to Johnny Blaze]
Caretaker: San Venganza`s 500 miles. We`d better get going.
[walks on]
Johnny Blaze: [following the Caretaker] We?
[Caretaker whistles and a black horse comes trotting out of the mist]
Caretaker: I`ve got one last ride left in me.
[the Caretaker mounts the horse, donning a ten-gallon hat which he tips at Johnny, and transforms into a Ghost Rider]
Johnny Blaze: [grins knowingly] Carter Slade.
[Slade slowly nods his head]
Johnny Blaze: Can YOU keep up?
[Slade`s horse transforms into a fiery phantom steed]
Johnny Blaze: Let`s ride!
[Johnny mounts his bike, turning into the Ghost Rider]
Barton Blaze: You`re a hotshot, ain`t you, boy? Young, think you know everything there is to know. Think you`re gonna live forever. Is that about right?
Young Johnny Blaze: Aw, come on, Dad. It was a patch of dirt.
Barton Blaze: Ahem, that`s not the point. Point is, we`ve been doing this act less a week. You`re already screwing around.
Young Johnny Blaze: I was just doing it for the crowd.
Barton Blaze: We both know why you done it. You think she`s gonna stand by you when you`re in a wheelchair? Huh? Huh, hotshot?
Mephistopheles: What`s wrong, Johnny? Worried about your father?
Young Johnny Blaze: What do you know about that?
Mephistopheles: Even a blind man can see he`s sick. Thing about cancer is the time it takes... the toll on loved ones. Lives that are altered. Plans that have to be changed. Johnny, what if I could help your dad?
Young Johnny Blaze: Yeah? How?
Mephistopheles: How is not important. What if I could make him better? Give him back his health? Would you be willing to make a deal?
Young Johnny Blaze: Name your price.
Mephistopheles: Oh. I`ll take...
[looks around]
Mephistopheles: ...your soul.
Young Johnny Blaze: [chuckles] Okay.
Mephistopheles: By sunrise tomorrow, your father will be healthy as a horse. And you will have your whole life ahead of you. It`s your choice, Johnny.
[brings out Pactum Pactorum]
Mephistopheles: All you have to do is sign.
[Johnny looks at it and his thumb gets cut on top of scroll, his blood drips on the signature line]
Mephistopheles: Oh, that`ll do just fine.
Roxanne Simpson: Johnny Blaze, thank you for talking to us before your big jump. No one has ever attempted such a distance before: Three hundred feet from field goal to field goal. What`s going through your mind, right now?
Johnny Blaze: You look really good.
Roxanne Simpson: Is is true they found a connection between the biker bar massacre and last night`s victim here at the city train yards?
Captain Dolan: No comment.
Roxanne Simpson: Off the record, captain.
Captain Dolan: Off the record? Piss off.

Jon Voight was attached to the project at one point but dropped out.
Nicolas Cage had to have his Ghost Rider tattoo covered with make-up in order to play Johnny Blaze (Ghost Rider).
A large group of on-lookers converged on a bridge in Melbourne to watch scenes being filmed in a nearby location. Over the four days of filming at this location, the crowds grew so large that traffic was often disrupted and public transport operators reported an unusual jump in passenger traffic to the area.
Some scenes were filmed near Flinders St Station, the busiest railway station in Melbourne. Parts of the station were closed for filming, as well as minor alterations to train services being made.
Nicolas Cage`s hairpiece required three hours to apply every day.
The head-on shot showing Johnny Blaze crashing his motorcycle on landing after jumping a long line of trucks is identical to the famous shot of Evel Knievel`s crash after a spectacular jump at Caesar`s Palace on December 31, 1967.

# Continuing a trend in MVL adaptations, this film features foes not introduced in the series that this film adapts, but imported from other series. Blackheart debuted in Daredevil and Mephisto in the Silver Surfer.
Nicolas Cage`s computer generated skull was made from a three dimensional x-ray taken of his actual skull.

There is a scene in the movie where the Ghost Rider (played by Nicolas Cage), while riding through the desert, rides past a lizard on a rock. The lizard bursts into flame. This is strongly reminiscent of a similar scene from another Nicolas Cage movie, Raising Arizona (1987). In that movie, Cage`s character has a dream where his evil side is riding through the desert on a motorcycle, and shoots a lizard off a rock by the side of the road. The camera angles are practically identical.
When both Ghost Riders (Johnny Blaze and Carter Slade) ride together to San Venganza there is a scene where Blaze is riding in the foreground with Slade just behind him and slightly in front so both can be clearly seen. This scene pays homage to a painting and its late artist David Mann. The painting was entitled appropriately "Ghost Rider" but had nothing to do with the Marvel character.
Blackheart quotes the Bible at Mark 5:9 when he says, "My name is Legion, for we are many" after absorbing the souls of the damned at San Venganza. This quote was spoken by a demon-possessed man who was cured by Jesus Christ.

# The Johnny Blaze video game seen in the movie is actually a game called "Crusty Demons" (2006) developed by UK games company Climax Studios. The plot of the game is somewhat similar to the plot of Ghost Rider: A group of hard-riding extreme bikers are killed while performing an insane stunt, only to be offered a deal by the Devil himself. He`ll resurrect them and offer them immortality in exchange for them offering their crazy motocross skills to do the Dark Lord`s work. An interesting side note is that Climax Studios also developed Ghost Rider (2007) (VG).
The Caretaker/Carter Slade Ghost Rider character is a tribute to the original Marvel Comics Ghost Rider (now called The Phantom Rider to avoid confusion). However, the character in the comics is simply a regular human who wears a white costume and rides a white painted horse, both covered with phosphorous for a glowing effect.
Director Mark Steven Johnson actually put forward his own money so that an action sequence where Ghost Rider battles a helicopter could be made.
When Johnny and Mack are on the tour bus and Mack is watching TV, the motorcycle rider shown is Travis Pastrana.

# Was originally planned for a summer 2006 release. However, director Mark Steven Johnson asked for more time to complete more action shots. One of these shots is the scene in which Ghost Rider battles a helicopter.
During the shoot, Nicolas Cage was the guest of Ferrari at the Australian Grand Prix race.

To create the Ghost Rider`s voice, sound designer Dane A. Davis recorded all of Nicolas Cage`s lines as the Ghost Rider, and then filtered them through three different kinds of animal growls (played backwards, covering three separate frequencies) and then played them through a mechanical volumizer, before finally giving them a fiery crackle. Director Mark Steven Johnson compared it to "a deep, demonic, mechanical lion`s roar" and says that "one thing is for sure, his voice will shake the theatre!"
Johnny Depp was interested in playing the title role. Eric Bana was also in heavy contention for the title role.
The flame tank chopper Johnny Blaze rides is a modern replica of the "Captain America" chopper that Peter Fonda rides in Easy Rider (1969). Fonda (as the Mephistopheles character) makes a humorous reference to this at one point, saying, "Nice bike!"
Barton Blaze calls Johnny "Hot Shot" in the first sequence. The French subtitle translates this nickname as "tête brûlée" -- literally "Burned Head".
SPOILER: At the time of filming, the world record distance for a motorcycle jump was 277.5 feet, set by Trigger Gumm in May, 2005. On Dec. 31, 2007, Robbie Madison essentially performed Johnny Blaze`s "Goalpost-to-Goalpost" motorcycle jump in Las Vegas, setting a new world record distance of 322.625 feet, though no obstacles were jumped--just air.
