Her sister, Scherrie Payne (who is sometimes known as "the little lady with the big voice"), was a member of the Supremes from 1973 to 1977.

Hit #3 in the U.S. and #1 in the U.K. in 1970 with her pop smash "Band of Gold." She later returned to the U.S. Top 40 Billboard charts twice more with "Deeper & Deeper" and "Bring the Boys Home."
