Posner, an appointee of Republican president Ronald Reagan, provoked outrage in the legal community in 1999 when, in an article in Raritan magazine, he contended that "the rule of law is an accidental and dispensable element of legal ideology", and caused another stir in an article that put forth the argument that buying and selling babies on the free market would lead to better outcomes than the present situation of government-regulated adoption.

First came to prominence with the publication of the book "High Crimes and Misdemeanors", which was a best-seller in 1998. That led to her now-familiar appearances as a guest on many conservative television talk shows and her many appearances as a guest or guest host of most of the country`s right-wing radio talk shows. Two subsequent books, "Slander" and "Treason", have also been best-sellers.

Moved to Palm Beach, Florida in 2005 where one of her neighbors is best-selling novelist James Patterson.
