Kym Wilson Biography

Short Biography

Kym was born in Brisbane on 1st April 1973 and grew up in Warwick. At three a friend of her mother (a hairdresser) wanted to use her as a model, and Kym was signed to an agency. At six she started doing television commercials as well. When she was eight her family moved to Sydney, where she took acting, singing and dancing lessons. She appeared in the children`s television series Professor Poopsnaggle in 1983, and left school in year 11 to focus on her acting career.

In 1991 she starred alongside Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts and Russell Crowe, and she received a Logie for Most Popular New Talent in 1992 and was nominated for an International Emmy in 1993, for Brides Of Christ. Also, she hosted Video Smash Hits, played with her country and western band Honky Tonk Angels and appeared nude in magazine Black and White. Kym`s Heartbreak High character Sam Robinson became a lesbian icon because of her leather clothes, tattoo, partly bleached hair and pouty lips.

Kym herself became almost notoriously famous for dating INXS singer Michael Hutchence and for being the last person to see him alive in November 1997, with her boyfriend, barrister Andrew Reyment. She moved to the USA in 1998 because of the ensuing scandal and press attention, and undertook a three months acting scholarship assisted by the Winston Churchill Fellowship there, which she had won before Hutchence`s death. She acted with a Shakespeare company, and took a course at the Moscow Art Theatre at Harvard, before deciding to stay in the USA. She started writing columns for New Idea magazine with her soap pal Toni Pearen, about their struggles to make it in Hollywood.
