Short BiographyArnon Milchan (Hebrew: ארנון מילצ`ן; December 6, 1944) is a film producer and businessman. Milchan produced many successful films such as The War of the Roses, Pretty Woman, The Devil`s Advocate and L.A. Confidential. He is an Israeli citizen. Milchan was born in Tel Aviv, British Mandate of Palestine, to a father who owned a fertilizer company, which Milchan turned into a successful chemical business.[citation needed] He also earned a degree from the London School of Economics. It is alleged that Milchan then worked as an arms dealer for Israel.[citation needed] Milchan denies being a dealer but admits acting as an intermediary between Israel and various defense companies.Milchan then began investing in movies for various directors.[citation needed] Most notable among those directors was Martin Scorsese. Milchan started his own production company in 1991 called New Regency Productions. Through his company and other business ventures Milchan has attained a net worth estimated at about $1.1 billion. Arnon Milchan is listed as a producer by IMDB for many classics films such as Brazil (1985), Once Upon a Time in America (1984), Dizengoff 99 (1979), and many others. Milchan is also noted for being a strong supporter of Israel.[citation needed] He is said to be a personal friend of Shimon Peres and underwrites the Israeli Network which transmits Israeli television programming to the United States and Canada via cable and satellite TV.
