Trivia and Quotes
Quotes
(about the friends who have given him a hard time about his rope-swinging scenes in "Bridge to Terabithia") One of my friends said to me, "Dude, maybe sometime, do you want to go rope swinging or something?" And I didn`t get it at first, so I was like, "What?" And he said, "You know, go rope swinging," I was like, "Where?" and he was like, "Oh, just any old river valley type of thing," and I was like, "Oh, shut up!"
Humor
Imagination is an important part of everybody`s life. With today`s kids, imagination is lost because kids play so many video games, and it`s bad for that. My little brother plays a lot, and I was always outside playing Army, rolling around on the ground, playing with squirt guns and playing kickball. I think kids need to do that more often.
OTHER
Filming RV was so much fun. We had an amazing cast! We all got along so well, and since it was on location, we all did tons of stuff together away from the set and became great friends. Working with Robin [Williams] is like watching him do stand-up constantly! It was so unbelievable to watch him do amazing improv. What was fun was getting to improv along with him because I love to do that, and the fact that I got to do it with Robin Williams still blows my mind.
Experience
(about co-star and friend AnnaSophia Robb) I don`t know how we didn`t get sick of each other, to be honest with you. We were together on the set, we were staying in the same room for long periods, and then we were together away from set. I don’t know how I dealt with her.
(about one of his most embarrassing moments) I was on a date, and we were sitting at dinner. I tried to put my arm around her; I was doing the yarn thing where you lift your arms up. As I did that, I hit the table and spilled a drink.
Every time I read anything, whether it be a book, a script or anything, I automatically imagine myself as the boy in the plot. I don’t know why. Seriously, anything, if I’m reading a magazine article or whatever, I picture myself as the kid people are talking about. It’s really weird. I don’t know why I do that.
(about acting) This is it for me. I want to try directing too, whenever that comes. I have a book that I’m interested in, and I possibly want to try to adapt the screenplay myself. I figure I can adapt a book and then have somebody come in and completely fix it for me. But, you know, I want to try some directing someday, and I am definitely going to stick with acting
crack my neck and fingers all the time, but for some reason, whenever I hear someone cracking their ankles, I say, "Eww! There`s something wrong with you!"
I could not eat the stuff they eat on Fear Factor. The thought of eating bugs, worms or anything else alive is just gross!
I like both athletic girls and girlie girls. It depends on their personality. I like girls who can go out and play sports with me and throw the football around, but you don`t want a girl who`s too much tougher than you.
I used to be obsessed with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was younger. So obsessed that every time I`d walk over a drain, I`d bend over and say, "Hi, turtles!"
used to have two imaginary friends named Hamo and Damo. One of them was pink, and the other was blue. I don`t know why they were named Hamo and Damo, but we`d sing Barney songs together, as embarrassing as that is!
When I was like, 5 years old, I used to have really bad nightmares about the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz. In my dream, I would open my eyes and look out the window, and she would be there! I`d wake up scared to death, just screaming and yelling.

In the audio commentary for Bridge to Terabithia, Josh expressed his apologies for making the in-school racing scene at the beginning of the film take so long to film. Everyone was trying to work out the timing so AnnaSophia Robb`s character Leslie could win the race as scripted, but Josh is so competitive, he kept winning race after race, so it took longer to get the necessary footage.

It`s been said that while filming Little Manhattan, Josh--who was 10 years old at the time--was much more nervous about doing his first on-screen kiss than actress Charlie Ray (who played his love interest) was. When Josh asked the director why he was so nervous and Charlie wasn`t, the director smiled and shot Josh with a line that was used often throughout the movie: "Well, it`s because girls mature faster than boys!"

Josh`s mother Michelle, who originally worked as an emergency response trainer for Delta Airlines, quit the job to homeschool her son and manage his career. Josh`s father Chris is a management analyst for the U.S. Environment Protection Agency in Clifton, and one of the reasons the Hutchersons chose not to move out to Hollywood is so that Chris could maintain his career.
