Stephen Douglas Jenkins is an American musician best known as the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist for Third Eye Blind. Under Jenkins`s leadership, Third Eye Blind has sold over eight million copies of four albums Third Eye Blind (1997), Blue (1999), Out of the Vein (2003), and Ursa Major (2009). Jenkins wrote or co-wrote many of the band`s most notable hits, including "Semi-Charmed Life," "Jumper," "How`s It Going to Be," "Losing a Whole Year," "Graduate," "Deep Inside of You," "Never Let You Go, "Blinded," and "Don`t Believe a Word."
Jenkins has entered other ventures both in the music business and in Hollywood, including acting in the films Rock Star (2001) as Bradley, and Art of Revenge (2003), in which he played the lead role Matthew Kane. He graduated as valedictorian of his class at University of California, Berkeley in 1987, with a B.A. in English Literature.
Jenkins was included on People magazine`s "50 Most Beautiful People" list. He ended a relationship with actress Charlize Theron in October 2001. Much of Third Eye Blind`s third album, Out of the Vein, appears to explore the emotions he experienced as a result of that breakup. Jenkins dated singer Vanessa Carlton until 2007. He produced her second album Harmonium (2004) and co-wrote four tracks, including the lead single "White Houses". Jenkins appeared on the MTV candid camera show Punk`d when Carlton was the subject of one of Ashton Kutcher`s practical jokes. He co-produced Heroes and Thieves, Carlton`s third album, with Irv Gotti, 7 Aurelius and Rick Rubin. He currently lives in San Francisco California.
