Robert F. Simon (December 2, 1908 — November 29, 1992) was an American character actor, often portraying military or authority figure roles. Though his face was recognized by audiences, he was mostly unknown by name. Simon appeared in films and on television between 1950 and 1985, having mastered the genre of westerns, drama, and comedy. Simon had recurring supporting roles in six series: (1) as copy editor Dave Tabak in Saints and Sinners, a 1962-1963 NBC drama about a news room, (2) as Uncle Everett McPherson in the 1970 NBC sitcom Nancy, (3) as Frank Stephens, the father-in-law of Samantha Stephens and the father of Darrin Stephens, in ABC`s Bewitched, (4) as General Alfred H. Terry in the 1967 ABC military-western Custer, (5) as Captain Rudy Olsen in Karl Malden`s ABC detective series The Streets of San Francisco, and (6) as newspaperman J. Jonah Jameson in The Amazing Spider-Man. Both Saints and Sinners and Nancy were cancelled at mid-season. Simon appeared five times from 1964-1971 in the Bewitched episodes "Samantha Meets the Folks", "A Nice Little Dinner Party", "The Dancing Bear", "It`s Wishcraft", and "Samantha and the Antique Doll". He was replaced in the Frank Stephens role by Roy Roberts in the later seasons. His Custer co-star, Wayne Maunder, later portrayed rancher Scott Lancer on the CBS western Lancer. His Streets of San Francisco appearances between 1972 and 1976 included episodes entitled "A Wrongful Death", "The Twenty-Four Karat Plague", "A String of Puppets", and "The Twenty-Five Caliber Plague". Simon appeared from 1978-1979 in twelve episodes of The Amazing Spider-Man in segments entitled "The Con Caper", "The Kirkwood Haunting", "Photo Finish", "Wolfpack", and "The Chinese Web: Part 1".

From 1977-1982, Simon appeared three times on NBC`s Quincy M.E. starring Jack Klugman as a medical examiner in episodes entitled "Death Casts a Vote", "Sweet Land of Liberty", and "Expert in Murder". In 1980, he appeared as Grandpa Wells in the episode "Generations" of ABC`s family drama Eight Is Enough, based on a book by Tom Braden and starring Dick Van Patten in the lead role. Simon`s last recorded television appearance was in a 1985 episode of CBS`s Airwolf starring Jan-Michael Vincent and Ernest Borgnine. Simon last resided in the Reseda district of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County, California. He died of a heart attack in Tarzana three days before what would have been his 84th birthday He is interred at Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Chatsworth in Los Angeles County.
