Ralph Carter Biography

Ralph Carter (born May 30, 1961 in New York, New York) is an American actor. Carter is best known for his work as a child and teenager, both in the Broadway musical Raisin (based on the Lorraine Hansberry drama A Raisin in the Sun) and as the character Michael Evans, the youngest member of the Evans family, on the 1970s sitcom Good Times. For his work in Raisin, Carter was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Supporting or Featured Actor (Musical). He has the distinction of having appeared in two Galt MacDermot flop musicals in the same season, Dude, for which he won the Drama Desk Award for Most Promising Performer, and Via Galactica. In 1975, Carter recorded a disco album called "When You`re Young and In Love." The title song, along with another called "Extra, Extra" were hits at disco clubs and charted highly. Carter also sang the title song of his album in one of the episodes of Good Times. On the October 4, 1975 episode of Soul Train, Ralph Carter performed "When Your Young and In Love."

On June 28, 2006, Carter appeared at the BET Awards in a mini-Good Times reunion, joining former cast members Jimmie Walker (J.J.), Bern Nadette Stanis (Thelma) and Janet Jackson (Penny) in playing their respective roles. The reunion included neither John Amos (James) — although Amos has remained friendly with the cast, appearing in other Good Times reunion events — nor Ja`net Du Bois (Willona Woods). Cast member Esther Rolle (Florida) had died in 1998. The entire surviving original cast (excluding Janet Jackson and Ben Powers) appeared together at the 2006 TV Land Awards on March 19, 2006, in Santa Monica, California.

Hey Ralph, you and I have so many things in common. things like our age, we were born in the same year. Also, we look alike from the days of Good Times I guess up to now. I was always asked if I were you back in the day. I would give anything to be able to meet you, at the very least to just talk to you. I have always loved you as a entertainer and just as a person. please do me the honor of getting back to me. So that we can one day met and hopefully become friends and share some of the other things that we have in common. I love you man. Peace, Dave

I concur, everyone needs to stop asking if Ralph Carter is gay. It doesn`t change the fact the he has a beautiful singing voice and a good actor on Good Times. It`s no one`s business let him live his life; I`m living mine; just live YOURS!

Hello Ralph, I just heard you on the radio this morning with the cast from Good Times. I just want to say hello..You may or may not remember me. My good friend was friends with your sister Vicki at Fairfax HS. I was Kendra`s big brother...though we were family friends. We all used to go roller skating at the park on Wilshire by the Tar Pits in Park LaBrea. It was great hearing your voice and to know you`re doing well. I just wanted to give you a shout out and please tell your sister I said hello. Peace and Blessings. Michael Dupree

Mr. Carter I loved Good Times and think that your show was just as important as The Cosby Show. It like Cosby depicted a black family who wanted the best for the family. The Evans had more of a struggle like most blacks back then. Peace

Man when I was a kid (around 12) I taped the episode when you sang You and I and I played that part over and over trying to learn that song. Your version of it is still my favorite. I also liked the episode where you sang Young and in Love. So many teardrops start to fall, but true love will conquer all, when you`re, when you`re young and in love... I felt you.
