Peter began a relatinoship with Ava Gardner and then left for Joan Fontaine. Shortly after that he left Joan for Deborah Kerr. He eventually married Deborah and they remained married for over thrity years until Deborah died in 2007.

i went to college usc in los angeles ca 1959-1963 i lived in an apt house st james place off figueroa and the apt next to me housed a peter viertel who claimed to be related to the author he was somewhat bizaar at times and very introverted could it be true he was a relation ??
