Charles Eugene "Pat" Boone (born June 1, 1934) is an American singer, actor and writer who was a successful pop singer in the United States during the 1950s and early 1960s. He sold over 45 million albums, had 38 top-40 hits and starred in over 12 Hollywood movies. Boone`s talent as a singer and actor, his old-fashioned values contributed to his popularity in the pre-rock and roll era. He continues to entertain and perform. Boone was successful in multiple ways. He hosted a network television show, The Pat Boone Chevy Show from 1957-1959. He has written many books and had a No. 1 Bestseller in the 1950s ("Twixt Twelve and Twenty", Prentice-Hall). His cover versions of African-American rhythm and blues hits had a noticeable effect on the development of the broad popularity of rock and roll. During his tours in the 1950s, Elvis Presley was one of his opening acts.
According to Billboard, Boone was the second biggest charting artist of the late 1950s, behind only Elvis Presley but ahead of Ricky Nelson and The Platters, and was ranked at No. 9 - behind The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney but ahead of artists such as Aretha Franklin, Chicago and The Beach Boys - in its listing of the Top 100 Top 40 Artists 1955-1995. In the 1960s, he focused on gospel music and is a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Many today believe strongly that he should be a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, including Mike Curb, a former lieutenant governor of California and the founder of Curb Records. Boone still holds the Billboard record for spending 220 consecutive weeks on the charts with more than one song. Boone is also a motivational speaker, a television personality, a conservative political commentator and a popular Christian activist, writer and preacher. In fact - statistically, as you know - people have done polls, research, and at least 80 percent or more or working media are liberal Democrats if they are involved with any party and certainly liberal in their philosophy. I hope a great young Reagan will emerge. If there`s anyone in my lifetime who deserves honor it is Billy Graham. I think he is the most significant figure since the apostles. Don`t trust anyone over 30. This may surprise you, but I was arrested in high school. So I would say Reagan was the best, and certainly Clinton the worst. In this culture, where entertainers and athletes wield such power, it seems only right to me that they try to make their influence a good one. When you get married you forget about kissing other women. So although women can do anything that men can`t do, they can also do something that men can`t do, and that is mother their children. When political figures are shown on television or in movies, it`s always the liberal Democrats that are shown to be humane, caring people. It is quite true - in fact, obvious on the surface - that the vast majority of dramatic shows and comedies, as well, advocate a liberal and humanistic and relativistic lifestyle and concept. I think the best president - because he changed the whole mood of the country, the whole economy of the country, and stood up to Communism... that was continuing its causes around the world, and backed them off and caused them to collapse - and that was Ronald Reagan. Anyway, legislative ability, I think is second to the ability of a leader to inspire and literally to lead in positive directions. There`s something about me that makes a lot of people want to throw up. Then the album created a tremendous furor and got me kicked off Christian television for two months, and then restored after they settled down and listened to the music and realized there was nothing wrong with it. So obviously, any religion embodies some form of rules and expectations for behavior, and even sometimes consequences, and they don`t want to hear any of that. | ||
