Mary Hay Caldwell or am she is known to her movie friends, Mary Hay, was born in Ft. Bliss, Texas, the daughter of Colonel and Mrs. Frank Merrill Caldwell. She lived all her girlhood in Army Garrisons and has traveled extensively in the Philippiers, spending two years in Honolulu, and has also travelled much in Japan. She is an all-round athlete, and holds swimming medals, plays golf, is an accomplished pianist, took a course in nursing, and graduated from the Denishawn School of Dancing. Her first screen appearance was in Griffith`s "Hearts of the World," as dancing girl in the German dug-out scene. She was on the speaking stage in 1919 and 1929 appearing in "Ziegfeld Follies" and "Nine O`clock Revue." Her latest role is Kate Brewster in Griffith`s "Way Down East."
