  • It`s hard to compare actors from different generations.

  • My agent sent me the script and I loved it. I wondered how they would turn me into a chimp. My agent said it would probably not entail to much time. Just some hair and make-up. I found out that it was not so simple.

  • A lot of more modern films seem to just be out for violence or sex or what have you, without relating it to what`s going within human beings. But every now and then one comes along that does that, and it`s a joy.

  • The only problem was that I couldn`t communicate with Dario. He speaks Italian and I don`t. We had a translator the whole time. I just felt that something was lost with the go between. He was a delightful man, but I wish we could have spoken the same language.

  • The King and Queen made the rounds after the film. We were told how we were to respond, and we were in a semi circle in the lounge area of the cinema, they came around after the King, the Queen and both Princesses.

  • I got so anxious sitting in the make-up chair for hours with my face covered. I had my doctor write a prescription for valium. I couldn`t have done it without the pill.

  • Some things a lady doesn`t tell.

  • I think it`s because it was an emotional story, and emotions come through much stronger in black and white. Colour is distracting in a way, it pleases the eye but it doesn`t necessarily reach the heart.

  • Kazan deserved the Oscar. It was for his work not his politics. It was a lifetime achievement award, and I believe his work was worthy of that.
    (brainyquote.com)
  • That`s fairly accurate, I think, for a great number of us. Becoming a star wouldn`t have bothered me, but what is a star? A star isn`t anything. An actor acts. That`s the important thing. (on being an actress instead of a star)
  • "For a long while, I wouldn`t talk about it at all. I do now, because there`s a whole new generation that doesn`t remember. And the more one knows, the more one can see, and not allow history to repeat itself." - Kim Hunter, referring to her "blacklisting"
    Trivia

  • An agent for David O. Selznick saw Kim in a stage production at the Pasadena Playhouse and signed her to a seven-year contract. Selznick suggested she change her name to Kim and an RKO secretary suggested the last name of Hunter. A few years later, Irene Mayer Selznick, David`s ex-wife by then, recommended Kim for the role of Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire (1951).

  • Kim was blacklisted in films and TV even though she was never a Communist or even held pro-Communist views. But as a strong believer in civil rights she signed a lot of petitions and was a sponsor of a 1949 World Peace Conference in New York. Her testimony to the New York Supreme Court in 1962 against the publishers of "Red Channels" helped pave the way for clearance of many performers unjustly accused of Communist connections.
