 For anyone who covers baseball as a writer or broadcaster, ... the No. 1 requirement is that you`ve got to love the game. Lord knows between the travel, the weather, your team playing badly, there`s all kinds of things that you can find to make yourself upset if you want. But you have to realize those things are all just a few clouds in a wonderful sky. Tom never lost sight of that sky. It felt like hours and hours and hours. He always called me Brother Lowe. He was always exceptionally generous to me, kind, friendly, ... He`d always be at the park early and when you looked down at the sign-in sheet it would say: `Cheek. Radio`. That`s all. Looking back, it summed him up. Humor is a good way, as it always has been, of drawing people in, exploiting the stereotype and finding a common ground.
