Since 1986 Emir Kusturica has played the bass for the Yugoslav Gipsy -Techno-Rock band "No Smoking". Soon before the Balkan war broke out in the early 1990s, band leader Dr. Nele Karajlic moved to Belgrade and in 1994 formed a new band with younger musicians, including Stribor Kusturica, Emir Kusturica's son, on drums. In 1998 the "No Smoking" composed the music for Emir Kusturica's film Crna macka, beli macor (1998), which won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival of that year. In 1999 "No Smoking" recorded a new album "Unza Unza Time", produced by the Universal record company, as well as a video clip for MTV and Video Music, directed by Emir Kusturica himself.
