He was relentless in his pursuit of a movie career and always busy as a versatile comedy, drama, mystery or crime character actor appearing from the 70`s through the 1990`s until his death from complications of Parkinson Disease in Woodland Hills at age 63. Edward Dean Winter made credited performances in hundreds of television shows and some films. His part as a paranoid secret agent on the television series `M*A*S*H` and on the successful series `Matlock` again as a paranoid official, this time as an FBI agent are classical. He was born in Ventura, California making his Broadway debut in 1966 in the musical `Cabaret` which netted him a nomination for a Tony Award for his portrayal of Herr Ludwig in the category `Best Supporting or Featured Actor` (Musical) in 1969 and again as J. D. Sheldrake in `Promises, Promises.` His movie career was scanty but Ed appeared in about a dozen films. He was a major star on the television comedy show `9 to 5` where he portrayed William `Bud` Coleman and on `Hollywood Beat` portraying Captain Wes Biddle and had recurring roles in `Dallas` as Dr. Frank Waring, `The Angry Beavers` as Commander Ben, `Herman`s Head` as Mr. Crawford and in `Soap` was Congressman Walter McCallam which lasted six episodes until cancellation.
