David White (April 4, 1916 – November 27, 1990) was an American stage, film and television actor. His best known role was the character "Larry Tate" in Bewitched. Born in Denver, Colorado, he served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He began his acting career in live theatre, making his Broadway debut in 1953. He married actress Mary Welch, by whom he had a son, Jonathan White (born July 14, 1955). Jonathan White died at the age of 33, a victim of the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. In 1958, Mary Welch White died during a second childbirth.
In 1964 White got the role of the Machiavellian advertising executive Larry Tate on Bewitched, which he played for the show`s entire run (1964 - 1972). This is the role for which he would be best-known during his life and posthumously. The role of Tate`s boy Jonathon was named after the actor`s son. He performed in numerous TV shows in the 1960s, such as "Bonanza" and "Dick Tracy". David White was also in two episodes of the original "The Twilight Zone", I Sing the Body Electric & "A World of Difference". White died of a heart attack on November 27, 1990, aged 74.
