 I was in Gulfport and Long Beach on Tuesday and was amazed at how much damage was done, ... But I was even more amazed at the response of people to help. I think I had my heart in my throat the whole game, This is a very strange appropriations year. We are dealing with a surplus and budget cuts. The question is who is gong to take the pain for spending cuts? It seems to be out of character with Mr. Anderson. We`re certainly looking at the issue of self-defense . . . he strikes me as a gentle person. It will drive up wages. You`ll see an interesting mix of people working. It may mean that employers look at employees going out of the area and see if they can offer them salary and benefits to keep them at home. We`re just going to see if we can make the puzzle fit together . . . we`ll just have to take it a step at a time. At a time when we are trying to keep countries such as Iran from expanding their nuclear programs, it is irresponsible for the Bush administration to push this dangerous technology worldwide. We have better, cleaner, and cheaper energy solutions that can be used to meet our energy needs and protect the environment. The family`s very concerned, obviously. For people who look closely at energy, the idea of New York being a callous and wasteful place is long dead and buried. When it comes to following up on new ideas and new technologies and staying ahead of the curve in terms of being smart and economical, New York is clearly among the leaders in the country. | ||
