Natalie Paley and Jean Cocteau began an ambiguous affair around 1933. Some say she became pregnant, others say that Cocteau exaggerated the type of relation they shared. He wrote about it in his diary:
"Natalie Paley was my mistress. We loved each other. That was our honeymoon (...) We laughed without worries. She became pregnant and we dreamt of a better future." (KAUFMANN, Natalie. Mère, mon beau souci--: Seize poètes et leurs mères. 1997, pág.100. ISBN-10: 2251441018).
There are claims that Natalie decided to make an abortion, something that would haunt Cocteau for the rest of his life.
