They first met in January 1999, at a NWA Mid-Atlantic show, but did not begin dating until a few months later. They used to share a home in North Carolina. The couple broke up when Amy had an affair with one of Matt`s close friend, and fellow wrestler Adam "Edge" Copeland in February 2005.
