Following Louis B. Mayer`s divorce she often escorted him in public. Her career lost momentum rather quickly MGM never promoted her as a leading lady and her last film at the studio was in 1946. The story at the time was that she had turned down a marriage proposal by newly divorced MGM head Louis B. Mayer, who retaliated by immediately dropping her contract at the studio.
