He married Betty Claire Barry (née Kalb; b. 12 February 1923 - d. 31 January 2003), whose stage name was Julie Carson, on October 22, 1944. She died two weeks before her 80th birthday, after more than 58 years of marriage, on January 31, 2003. Gene and Betty Claire Barry had three children - two biological sons, Michael (b. 1946) and Frederick (b. 1953), and an adopted daughter, Elizabeth.
