Couple Profile

Ghost is a good movie of the fantasy love genre. Swayze does a solid job as the dead guy that gets revenge. Demi Moore is tearful as the girl that thinks on and off about Sam. Whoopi Goldberg is great as a medium as her Best Supporting Actress Oscar is well deserved. Here is the story.

Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) is a yuppie with everything going right in his life. He has a hot girl in Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) and a great friend in Carl Bruener (Tony Goldwyn). But he feels he may lose something this good in life and ironically he does in a few minutes.

He and Molly get out of Macbeth but a mugger comes out of nowhere and eventually is named Willy Lopez (RIP Rick Aviles) and shoots Sam and runs away. Sam tries to chase him but there`s one problem. His body is laying lifeless and Molly screams for help. Sam is in disbelief and has to see Molly try to revive him.

He eventually has some bad visions about death and learns of his new life as a ghost and he has to deal with it and goes to his funeral. He follows Molly around and tries to protect her but he can`t interact with live objects. Sam learns the mugger that killed him came back to the apartment to get something and uses their cat to make Willy runs away and Sam follows Willy. He learns that Willy knows someone and sees that his death wasn`t an accident.

His last chance to to speak to Molly is in a conning medium in Oda Mae Brown (Goldberg). He at first doesn`t believe her powers, but his comments make her panicky and he follows her and tries to get her to talk to Molly. He sings Henry the Eighth to Oda Mae and she decides to do it to make him stop singing and they go to Molly`s apartment.

It takes a while for Molly to believe Sam is talking to Oda Mae but she does when Sam tells Oda Mae to say "Ditto". They talk and Molly learns Sam was setup and should go to the cops.Yet Carl has second thoughts of this medium and makes Molly change her mind. Carl goes to Willy`s apartment and Sam learns the horrifying truth: his best friend had him killed for the MAC Codes to launder money to drug dealers.

It irritates Sam and he needs to see a ghost he often sees at the train station in a dark suit (RIP Vincent Schiavelli) and learns of how to touch and move things. He asks Oda Mae to do one last favor in going to the bank and getting the money Carl plans to launder and get him killed. They succeed but Molly is there and tells Carl she saw Oda Mae.

Willy and Carl go to Oda Mae`s place and Sam gets Willy killed and he goes to Hell. He and Oda Mae go to Molly`s and Sam gets to touch Molly one last time But Carl is there and chases Molly and Oda Mae. He gets a hold of both of them but Sam saves both of them and Carl is unexpectedly killed by a sharp piece of glass. Carl`s ghost appears and sees Sam and is taken to hell.

Sam talks and Molly begins to hear him for real and the spirits make his ghost presence appear and she cries and kisses his spirit. He thanks Oda Mae and has always loved Molly and she says Ditto. He goes away to end the movie.

While Ghost isn`t quite as good as it was back in 1990, it`s still is a good movie with plenty of redeeming factors. The soundtrack is simply beautiful and very tearful even for men. Jerry Zucker`s meshing of comedy, drama, romance, fantasy, and thriller holds up long enough to make Ghost worthwhile.
